NILES, Mich. -- Thanks to a partnership with the Knights of Columbus, the Women's Care Center in Niles is now equipped with a brand-new ultrasound machine after a special dedication ceremony with Bishop Edward Lohse of the Diocese of Kalamazoo.

Four Knights of Columbus councils from New Buffalo, Niles, Buchanan and Edwardsburg came together to support the initiative.

"We're part of what's called the Knights of Columbus Ultrasound Initiative," says Jeff Zochalski, Grand Knight of Council 14366 of the Knights of Columbus. "And what that is, is a way for us to raise funds for centers in need to help a mother see her child for the first time via an ultrasound."

"The early ultrasounds are truly amazing. Women get to see their baby for the first time," says Abby Ray, director of Women's Care Center of Niles. "So being able to provide that, where they get the early ultrasound to see their baby, see that heartbeat...is just a wonderful thing to be a part of."

The Knights of Columbus helps with other special causes including the Coats for Kids program, the Wheelchair Mission, in addition to supporting local food pantries.
