SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Jack Swarbrick, Notre Dame’s Athletic Director, knew about sexual misconduct that involved coaches and athletes as he was serving as legal counsel for USA Gymnastics.
The April 2012 deposition is 39 pages.
In part of the statement, Swarbrick is asked “Are you aware of any sexual misconduct scandals involving coaches in USA Gymnastics?” He responded, “Yes.”
Swarbrick refused to say whether he advised the organization on those allegations. His attorney stepped in and said it may violate attorney-client privilege.
The Indy Star has brought light to a 2015 deposition that showed Swarbrick was one of the key people that had advised the group on the policies related to sexual abuse.
Sources from The Indy Star said two former presidents of the USA Gymnastics Organization claim he discouraged the group from handing out a booklet on child abuse to it’s members.
Swarbrick stated in the 2015 deposition that he did not recall advising against giving away the booklets.
ABC 57 reached out to Notre Dame and The Indianapolis Star, they both confirmed Swarbrick’s deposition statements were accurate.
ABC 57 also reached out to his secretary, but have not heard back.
