Deputies identify victim, suspect in Kosciusko Co. shooting

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department has released the name of the man who was shot at a home on SR 14 in Akron Wednesday night.

Deputies received a call about a shooting at 6:49 p.m.

The sheriff's department, Indiana Conservation Enforcement Division and Indiana State Police responded to the home.

When they arrived they found 50-year-old Samuel Walter Israel with a gunshot wound to the upper chest, deputies said.

His wife, 58-year-old Jacqueline Leona Israel, was also inside the home.

Samuel was airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Jacqueline was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw for unspecified injuries.

After the hospital, she was taken to the sheriff's department on a preliminary charge of felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Deputies said Samuel was in critical condition as of Thursday morning.
