Deputies investigating after 21-month-old hospitalized with suspicious injuries

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Ind. -- A 21-month-old girl is hospitalized in critical condition after sustaining injuries not "consistent with normal activities of a child," according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to a home in Almena township around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday for reports of an unresponsive child.

When deputies arrived, the child's babysitter was performing CPR.

Deputies began life saving measures until she was transported to the hospital.

The child remains unresponsive and is in critical condition, deputies said.

Deputies say her injuries are not consistent with the normal activities of a child.

Deputies and the Michigan State Police are investigating.
