Deputies investigating homicide in area of 1025 E.

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- Deputies are conducting a homicide investigation after a man who was bleeding went to two different homes on 1025 E trying to get help, according to the Starke County Sheriff's Office.

Around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, the sheriff's office received a 911 call from a resident who said a man was beating on the door of his home. The man beating on the door asked the resident to call police because he had been shot, reports said.

The man who claimed to have been shot was later identified as Nicholas Rudd.

The 911 caller said Rudd had left, but there was a large amount of blood on his porch.

While EMS and deputies responded, dispatch received another call from another neighbor saying Rudd was at their back door, blooding profusely and needed medical attention, report said.

When deputies arrived, they located the resident holding towels on the wounds to Rudd's neck.

By the time EMS arrived on scene, Rudd had died of his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies are treating this as a homicide investigation.

Deputies confirmed this was not a shooting.

The incident remains under investigation.
