Deputies investigating theft of blueberries

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of 87 berry lugs, each filled with 18 pounds of blueberries.

According to deputies, the owners at the blueberry farm on 16th Avenue in Geneva Township filled an order for blueberries and put the berries prepared for shipment in a building on their property around 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

Wednesday morning when the owners went to the building, all 87 lugs full of blueberries were missing.

The sheriff’s office says there were no signs of forced entry and they believe the suspects loaded them onto a pickup truck or trailer.

Each lug is blue-green and is marked in black lettering with the words Michigan Blueberry Growers Association and a blueberry symbol.
