Deputies locate stolen weapons during traffic stop
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. -- Deputies seized stolen weapons and collectible coins during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department.
At 12:30 a.m., a deputy stopped a vehicle on Liberty Street for a turn signal violation.
During the stop, the deputy said a passenger had a firearm under his leg and a knife at his side, according to reports.
Deputies searched the vehicle and located 2 stolen rifles, stolen collectible coins and burglary tools, reports said.
The discovery then led deputies to obtain a search warrant for a residence in the 100 block of N. Andrews Street in Three Rivers.
While serving the search warrant, deputies said they found 2 stolen handguns, more coins and a large amount of ammunition.
Five people were taken into custody including a 17-year-old male, an 18-year-old male and three 17-year-old females.
They were all taken into custody on preliminary charges of receiving and concealing stolen property, CCW violation and possession of burglary tools.
