Deputies trying to find family of accident victim

The La Porte County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the woman killed in an accident on US 421 on Wednesday. They have been unable to locate family members and are taking the unusual step of identifying her in hopes of finding her family.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Shawn Ellyn Rybicki.

Deputies say she has no known address but has stayed at various locations in Porter County, they believe.

Rybicki was struck and killed by a vehicle on US421 and US 30, but the vehicle involved fled the scene.

An autopsy determined her cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

The sheriff's office says if you know Rybicki or a family member, please call the detective bureau at 219-326-7700.

If you witnessed the accident between noon and 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday or saw any suspicious activity, please call the sheriff's office.
