Detroit will ring in new year with new tradition

DETROIT — The city of Detroit is busy making final preparations to ring in the new year with a new tradition.

The city will drop what is called the D Burst Ball in the middle of downtown.

The ball was designed by the Nordeen Brothers of the Detroit Design Center.

The D Burst will drop 100 feet from the Compuware Atrium.

The brothers cannot wait for their creation to mark the beginning of 2013.

The D Burst weighs about 150 pounds. And it is 10 and a half feet tall by 8 and a half feet wide. It is also illuminated with hundreds of lights.
