Detroit woman killed after hugging cop

DETROIT -- A friendly hug turned deadly at a Detroit house party after a police officer's gun accidentally went off.

The victim was celebrating her 25th birthday on Sunday when police said she hugged an off-duty cop from behind, causing his holstered gun to go off.

But her mom doesn't think she's getting the whole story.

"There's no reason for it.  Why would you have it at a social event?  Why would you be carrying a gun?" Yolanda McNair asked. "Now instead of planning her 25th birthday party, I have to plan her funeral."

The officer involved in the shooting is on paid leave.
