ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Community School Corporation is implementing new safety procedures at its secondary schools in an effort to strengthen security.
In a letter sent to parents and guardians, the district says students may notice additional security procedures in the coming weeks, including hand-held wands which will be used randomly.
If a wand is triggered either by an item or the student, there might be a brief search, in accordance with school policy.
Secondary schools include:
- E.H.S. (Freshman division)
- Elkhart Academy/Tipton
- Elkhart High School
- North Side Middle School
- PRIDE Middle School Academy
- Pierre Moran Middle School
- School Without Walls
- West Side Middle School
