SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- If you bought a real Christmas tree for the holidays, don’t throw it away just yet!
Recycling of real Christmas trees is much friendlier to our environment, and local cities are making it just as easy as trash pickup.
Authentic Christmas trees absorb carbon dioxide and let off oxygen while growing.
They are also biodegradable, meaning they can be recycled into mulch and other materials and continue serving the environment.
South Bend residents can place their trees on the curb for recycling by 6A.M. daily from January 3rd-31st.
Those in the city of St. Joseph in Michigan can also get trees picked up from the curb all day from now until January 20th.
If your city isn’t offering curbside recycling, you can drop off your tree at a local Home Depot, just make sure to reach out first to ensure your store is participating in the nationwide tree recycling.
Organic Resources in South Bend also accepts organic material drop offs during business hours, 8-4p.m Monday through Friday.
