Dowagiac police arrest 22-year-old suspect in March 15 shooting incident

DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- The Dowagiac Police Department reports they recently arrested a suspect regarding a shooting incident which occurred on E. Wayne Street near Mcomber Street on March 15.
Police say upon the initial investigation, officers were able to determine a suspect.
Authorities say they located the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jayunte Rashaud Franklin of Cassopolis, and interviewed him.
Police say Franklin admitted to firing the weapon out of the vehicle he was in.
The report states Franklin admitted to shooting the weapon into the air while driving down the street.
Officers say they were able to locate and seize the weapon used in the incident, and the investigation has been forwarded to the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.
A warrant was issued for Franklin on the charges of Discharging a Weapon from a Vehicle, a 10-year Felony, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, a 5-year Felony, and Felony Firearm, a 2-year Felony.
Once the warrant was issued Franklin was found in Cassopolis by an officer with the Cassopolis Police Department and taken into custody.
He was taken to the Cass County Jail and arraigned in Cass County District Court.
Franklin is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.
Police say there were no injuries or property damage from this incident.
