DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- After a verbal altercation at a party in the area, a victim was shot several times and died from the injuries after being transported by friends to the hospital. 

Dowagiac Police were called to the area of Cherry Street near Halstead Street around 9:20 p.m. for shots fired.

Authorities were told there was a verbal altercation between two subjects at a party. During the altercation, a gun was pulled out and shot several times striking the victim.

The person of interest is 24-year-old Demorrio Maurice Lowes of Cassopolis.

Lowes fled the scene, and the victim ran from the area before being picked up by friends to go to the hospital. 

The victim is a 19-year-old man from Benton Harbor and his name is being withheld until family is notified. 

Dowagiac Police request anyone with knowledge of Lowe’s whereabouts to contact police. 

This incident remains under investigation.
