Downtown South Bend enjoys Shortcakes on the Blacktop
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A sweet event took place in downtown South Bend on Wednesday.
We're talking about the Cathedral of St. James' Shortcakes on the Blacktop.
Hundreds shelled out $5 for a bowl of homemade strawberry shortcake. Each treat was made from shortcakes, strawberries, Bonnie Doon vanilla ice cream, and whipped topping.
The money raised will be split evenlu between three deserving charities: St. Margaret's House, Bridges Out of Poverty, and Habitat for Humanity.
"It has something to offer everybody, it's not just the person getting their shortcake, they know they are contributing to a good cause, but all the people who work on it, it's a chance to work on something they know supports downtown South Bend," said organizer Barbara Gresik.
This is the 20th year for event.
