Dr. Loren B. Hamel receives Distinguished Service Award

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- The Lake Michigan College Board of Trustees bestowed BHSH Spectrum Health Lakeland President Loren B. Hamel with the 2022 Bernard C. Radde Distinguished Service Award on Sunday.

This took place at the college’s 75th annual commencement ceremony held at the Mendel Center Mainstage.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by such a fine organization. We could not live up to our vision of improving health, instilling humanity and inspiring hope without the work Lake Michigan College does in our community every day,” said Dr. Hamel.

The annual award is given to recipients who further the cause of Lake Michigan College and higher education. It is named after the late Dr. Bernard C. Radde, a Lake Michigan College Board of Trustees member for 25 years.

Hamel was nominated for the award for his service as president of the BHSH Spectrum Health Lakeland. In this position, he led care delivery for three hospitals, 53 outpatient locations and more than 500 independent physicians throughout southwest Michigan.

“He is a champion of higher education, our mission at LMC, and continues to be a visible and vigilant leader in the local response to the COVID-19 pandemic. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of being recognized for a career of distinguished service,” said LMC President Dr. Trevor Kubatzke.
