Blowing and drifting snow will be the next hazard as the wind gusts overnight out of the southwest; gusts topping 30 mph will blow snow across open roadways, especially in rural, Northen Indiana, temperatures fall near zero with dangerous wind chills. The week ahead remains cold, with fairly persistent, like lake effect snow in Southwest Michigan and extreme northern Indiana. South Bend could approach 40 inches of snow for the month of January. Highs may finally break 20 this weekend.
