Driver allegedly runs away from scene of crash on CR 12

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – A 2000 Toyota Avalon allegedly crashed into a freight truck and injures both drivers on CR 12, west of CR 3, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say that the Toyota was heading west on CR 12. A freight truck was parked in front of the Toyota, west on CR 12.

The driver of the Toyota allegedly could not stop due to brake failure, rear ending the truck, deputies said. According to deputies, the driver of the Toyota also ran away from the scene into the woods.

Deputies were able to find the driver and brought the 38-year-old Elkhart man back to the scene.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries, but refused medical attention, deputies said.

The driver of the Toyota was cited for leaving the scene of the accident with bodily injuries, following too closely and operating a motor vehicle financial responsibility, according to deputies.
