Driver cited after crashing into utility pole while avoiding deer

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the area of 10232 C.R. 50 Monday at around 5:45 a.m.
The report states a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by a 44-year-old Ligonier woman, was traveling west on C.R. 50 toward the intersection of C.R. 50 and C.R. 143.
Deputies say that's when a deer ran out onto the roadway, causing the woman to swerve before running off the road and striking a utility pole.
The driver sustained injuries to her face from the airbag, including minor bleeding and swelling to her face.
She also had complaints of knee pain.
The driver was then taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The vehicle sustained total front-end damage.
The driver was also cited for not wearing her seatbelt and not having car insurance.
