Driver disregards stop sign, hits 74-year-old bicyclist Tuesday morning

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A 74-year-old Elkhart man was sent to the hospital Tuesday morning after the driver of a 2002 Dodge Ram disregarded a stop sign and knocked him to the pavement on Spring Mill Drive.
The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office says 37-year-old John Karbalaeali, of Elkhart, was traveling west on Spring Mill Drive, approaching the intersection with Montrose Park Drive around 9:52 a.m. on June 3.
"[Karbalaeali} disregarded the stop sign, and began turning southwest onto Montrose Park Drive," the ECSO said. "[The victim] was traveling northeast on Montrose Park Drive on a bicycle. [The victim] did not have a stop sign and entered the intersection of Spring Mill Drive and Montrose Park Drive. [The victim] was then struck by [the Dodge], sending [him] to the ground."
Authorities say the cyclist had a cut under his left eye, a cut on his left arm, and a cut on right elbow. He was transported to Elkhart General hospital for treatment of his injuries.
