Driver ejected after striking tree, drugs and alcohol possible factor in crash

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Shattuck Road, just south of Quaker Street, in Penn Township around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say the investigation determined a 35-year-old Goshen woman, was driving north on Shattuck Road when she lost control.

The report states she the traveling off the road to the right, striking a tree, which caused her to be ejected from the vehicle, before the vehicle continued back onto the road and off to the left side where it became stuck in a field.

The woman was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for injuries sustained.

Deputies say the woman was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and drugs and alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
