Driver found guilty after passing stopped P-H-M school bus, nearly hitting two children
Shau-Ri Rose ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- After a jury trial, a driver who was caught on camera passing a stopped school bus has been found guilty on both charges.
Shau-Ri Rose was charged with two counts of Criminal Reckless committed with a Deadly Weapon. In March of 2025, video captured a driver, later identified as Rose, who ignored the flashing lights and stop signs on a Penn-Harris-Madison school bus and nearly hit two kids waiting to get on.
During arguments in her trial, Rose's attorney said the vehicle should not be considered a deadly weapon because Rose did not have the intent to harm the children nor any ill will. Rose reportedly came forward to police as the driver, admitting that she had turned around to face her son in the backseat after he unbuckled. She told police that when she turned back around, she noticed the school bus was stopped but was unable to brake and swerved around the bus on the right.
The prosecution argued that it was impossible for Rose's brakes to suddenly stop working, and that it took eleven seconds for the school bus to come to a full stop, which Rose should have noticed.
Shau-Ri Rose is now scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 24.
