Driver injured when vehicle hits utility pole, house

A driver was injured when his vehicle struck a utility pole and a house late Tuesday evening, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.

The homeowner called police around 10:50 p.m. to report a vehicle had struck their house and the vehicle was smoking.

When deputies arrived to the home in the 37000 block of Paw Paw Road, they found a vehicle that had heavy front end damage resting against the side of the house.

The investigation revealed the driver failed to negotiate a curve, struck a utility pole, then the house, deputies said.

The vehicle severed the utility pole and damaged the foundation of the house and caused a large hole in the exterior wall, deputies said.

The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies said alcohol and drugs did not appear to be factors in the crash.
