Driver killed in crash on M139 and Highland Avenue
BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash on M139 at Highland Avenue early Wednesday morning, according to Benton Township Police.
Police responded to the intersection of M139 and Highland Avenue at 12:24 a.m. for a two vehicle crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed a Ford Explorer was traveling west on Highland Avenue, entered the intersection of M139 and was struck by an Audi traveling north on M139, police said.
The driver and passenger of the Ford were transported to the hospital. The driver, a 63-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
One of the occupants of the Audi was transported to the hospital by a third party. Witnesses told police other occupants of the Audi fled the scene before police arrived, police said.
The occupants who fled have not been located, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.
