LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A driver was killed in a two vehicle crash on SR 39 Thursday evening, according to the La Porte County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the 7000 block of SR 39 just after 12:30 p.m. for a crash involving a semi and a car.

Deputies say Ric Henriott, 27, was traveling south on SR 39 and was passing several vehicles in a no passing zone when his car collided with a northbound semi.

The semi driver attempted to avoid the car, but was unable to prevent a collision.

Henriott's car left the west side of the road and came to a rest in the ditch. Henriott was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi left the east side of the roadway, drove through the lawn of a residence and came to a rest against a tree, deputies said.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Deputies closed the road for approximately 6 hours during the investigation and cleanup.

Deputies say alcohol was ruled out as a factor in the crash.
