Driver unresponsive after crash following police pursuit Sunday night
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The Mishawaka Police Department reports officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit following an attempted traffic stop for a license plate not matching the vehicle it was on.
Police say the pursuit began near the intersection of Grape Road and White Oak Drive around 11:15 p.m., Sunday.
The report states the pursuit ended when the suspect driver, only identified as an unnamed woman, left the road and crashed into a tree on Day Road, east of the Canadian National Railroad tracks.
Police say the woman was unresponsive and was removed from the vehicle as it started to catch fire.
The report states the fire was extinguished by an Indiana State Trooper on scene with Mishawaka officers.
Officers began performing CPR on the woman until medics arrived on scene.
She was taken to a local hospital and her condition is currently unknown.
