Drivers urged to stay off the roads

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Many counties and cities have declared travel warnings, watches or declared snow emergencies because the roads are so bad. Motorists are advised to stay off the roads unless it is an emergency.

On the Indiana Toll Road, Indiana State Police troopers are out helping drivers who have gone off the road.

Sergeant Trent Smith said parts of the Toll Road are passable, but the road is still dangerous.

ISP also wants to remind drivers that they are not driving four wheel drive vehicles, so if your car can't make it on the road, theirs probably won't either. That will make it difficult for them to assist you in an emergency.

Smith's advice is to just stay off the roads.
