Early morning joy ride wrecks car and home

SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- An early morning joy ride ended abruptly destroying the front of a home and severely injuring a teenager.

This all happened near the intersection of Bergan and College Street on the city's Northwest Side Sunday around 5 a.m.

According to the teen who was injured, his 15-year-old friend was driving at a high rate of speed on College Street and ran right into the front of the home.

The driver and the passenger were not seriously injured, but the teen in the backseat had to be taken to the hospital.

"I'm just glad this house was not occupied and there were no residents inside because for the love of God, I wouldn't want them to hurt anyone else, let alone themselves, said Debra Pepper, the injured teen's mother. "I mean as you can see, I'm standing here in awe just with my hand over my mouth because it's a miracle they're not dead."

According to Pepper, her son was in surgery Sunday to fix his arm and is recovering.
