Early morning train accident kills South Bend man

Saint Joseph County Police, Warren Township Firefighters and Norfolk Southern Railroad Police responded to an accident involving a train and pedestrian accident early Saturday morning.The incident happened at the rail crossing on Quince Road, just south of Edison Road in South Bend.
The crew of a westbound Norfolk Southern freight train called reporting that a pedestrian had been struck around 3:14 a.m.
21-year-old Michael Piechocki of South Bend was killed instantly.
The incident remains under investigation by the St. Joseph County Police Department as well as the St. Joseph County Coroner's Office.
