SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The East Race Waterway is bringing some refreshing news amidst the hot weekend we just had. The South Bend summertime staple just splashed into their 39th season.
The boats are inflated, the vests are out, and the first man-made whitewater course is now open for the season right in the heart of downtown South Bend.
Water sport enthusiast and beginners are all welcome to come out and join the fun.
You don’t have to have your own gear, but you will need rubber soled shoes with a strap, and maybe even a dry set of clothes.
ABC57 talked to manager, Kelli Notteboom following opening weekend.
"So we just had our opening weekend for the East Race, we are open Saturdays and Sundays, Saturdays noon to 5 p.m., Sundays noon to 4 p.m., and we can also do some private rentals during the week, we just have to get those requests in beforehand, but it’s a super fun time down here,” said Notteboom.
