East Side All-Stars Softball teams make history through World Series victory
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The East Side All-Stars made history! Both the 12U and 14U softball teams won the Babe Ruth World Series last weekend.
From regionals to the Babe Ruth World Series, the 12U team never lost a single game. The All-Stars had a dominant run postseason scoring 51 runs, allowing just one and going undefeated.
They capped it off with a championship win over Puerto Rico, winning every World Series matchup by an average of 6.3 runs.
And they didn’t just win as a team, they shined individually on the stat sheet with co-MVP awards, a batting champion and all offensive and defensive team.
Meanwhile for the 14U team, it was a game for the books. The 14U East Side All-Stars facing Australia, a team they’d split four games with earlier in the tournament. This time, they came out on top victorious. East Side jumped ahead, but Australia fought back until it came down to the bottom of the seventh, clinging to a 9-8 lead, leading to a win.
And just like their 12U counterparts, the 14U squad also brought home individual honors including Batting Champion, MVP, All-World Series team and All-Defensive team.
The girls say that having a positive attitude and never giving up was the recipe for a championship.
Officials at East Side say a ceremony to celebrate both championships will happen with a date to still be determined.
