Effort helps prepare at-risk teens for Indiana jobs

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Wednesday morning, South Bend's Career Academy and Workone got together to help prepare at-risk high schoolers for thousands of job openings across the state.

The main goal of the "Hire Technology" effort was to start developing a pipeline of qualified workers to fill the more than 11,000 manufacturing jobs in Indiana.

"We have felt like our job has been to meet them right in the middle and begin to develop kids that not only know how to put paper and pen together but also how to have practical real life skills," said lead Administrator Chad Addie.

"It's more project based and you get more attention to do what you need to do to excel unlike the public schools," said student Stefan Lula.
