Elderly man killed after being hit by a car

CASS COUNTY, Mich. – A pedestrian was killed Saturday near the Cass-Berrien County line, according to Michigan State Police.

MSP says at approximately 6:40 p.m. Feb. 9, first responders arrived to a crash involving a pedestrian in front of a Marathon Gas station at the intersection of Reum Road and U.S. 12.

Michigan State Police troopers rendered first aid on 70-year-old Earl E. Doss of Niles, Michigan until SMCAS medics arrived.  Edward E. Doss later succumbed to his injuries.

A 35-year-old motorist from Niles, Michigan, who allegedly struck Doss, assisted Michigan State Police on scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed Doss crossed the intersection before he was struck by a vehicle.

Pokagon Band Tribal Police, SMCAS ambulance service, MDOT, Cass County MEI’s office, and the Cass County Sheriff’s office assisted Michigan State troopers in their active investigation.
