After closure in 2020, YMCA reopens in downtown
ELKHART, Ind. -- “There are a lot of businesses who have really struggled during the COVID season, and I think having an event downtown will help a lot honestly,” says Derek Ogawa, owner of Old Style Deli.
After a year of hardship for many local businesses, artists and musicians. The Elkhart community welcomes back art walk! The free, self-guided event showcases local artists and musicians. Members of the community can find these artists stationed in downtown businesses along Main Street and Lexington Avenue.
Families are encouraged to stop, eat and play along the way as they view the artwork! Nancy Wirt, owner of N. Wirt design and gallery, has been participating in art walk since it first started 10 years ago. For her, the volunteer driven event is just one example of how the community continues to step up, especially during these difficult times.
“We really had so many people come down and say, today is the day I am shopping main street I am coming down. And they were conscious to even do the little things that I didn’t even think about like to not use credit cards to pay in cash or check, it really felt great,” says Wirt.
