Elkhart Chapter of Black Expo celebrates LeRoy Robinson Week
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart Chapter of Black Expo is honoring a legacy that continues to inspire and uplift the community.
This week marks the 3rd annual Leroy Robinson Week, scheduled for August 12-18 at various locations throughout Elkhart.
Robinson dedicated many years of service to Indiana Black Expo INC. and the Elkhart Chapter, playing a pivotal role in its success. Thanks to his leadership and commitment, the Elkhart Chapter was honored as "Chapter of the Year" eight times.
Monday, August 12
The "Special Friends with Special Needs Day," takes place at McNaughton Park Pavilion at 4 p.m. The event features face painting, photo booths, ice cones and hot dogs, with vendors offering resources and information for the special needs community.
Wednesday, August 14
The Elkhart Housing Authority will be offering free back-to-school haircuts for kids at 1 p.m. at the Elkhart Housing Authority Office in the conference room.
Thursday, August 15
From 4-8 p.m., The Arts and Cultural Pavilion will showcase artwork celebrating the African American culture and providing a platform for artists to share their creativity at the Lerner Theatre.
Friday, August 16
The Leroy Robinson Southern Soul and Soul Music Fest, a paid concert at the historic Lerner Theater, featuring the "Prince of Soul Music," Calvin Richards. Tickets are available for purchase at the Lerner Box Office or on Ticketmaster.com. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Elkhart County.
Saturday, August 17
The 10th Annual Leroy Robinson South Side Parade will kick off at 11 a.m., starting at the corner of Lusher and South 6th Street and concluding at Martin Luther King Jr. and Benham Avenue.
Following the parade, the Leroy Robinson Food Truck and Small Vendor Events, along with a free concert, will take place at Central Greens Park downtown from 12-8 p.m. The concert will feature performances by Lakeside and Chubb Rock.
Sunday, August 18
The week will conclude with the 10th annual Clash of the Titans legends game taking place at Northside Gym.
A free youth basketball camp will be held for kids in grades 3 through 8. The Legends of Ladies game is scheduled for 3 p.m., followed by the Legends of Men game at 5 p.m.
