ELKHART, Ind.--- The Elkhart City Council voted 8-0 Monday to approve funding for new equipment for the Elkhart Police Department. The contract is with Axon and costs $3.4 million over 5 years.
Axon will be providing Elkhart Police with 150 body cameras for officers, which is enough to issue one for every uniformed officer in the Elkhart Police Department. The cameras come synced with holsters that automatically activate the cameras once an officer draws his or her taser or gun.
The contract also will provide Elkhart Police with new, tasers, car dashboard cameras, new cameras within the Elkhart Police Department for interviews, and equipment for virtual reality training. A full list of the equipment offered in the contract can be found here.
