Elkhart Co. 4-H Fair welcoming all abilities

It is never any fun to be left out so that is why fair officials at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair are making sure the fair is an all inclusive event.

“We want them to come and enjoy a special day too so we just sort of thought what would they like to do and that’s how we sort of started creating it,” said Board Member Diane Wheatley.

Monday marks the 7th annual Disabilities Awareness Day. The day is dedicated to those people who live with a mental or physical disability. From 10 a.m. until noon selected rides on Midway will be altered to better suit people with disabilities.

“Our Midway is trained to work with these people so they open up just certain rides and then they adjust those rides so they might turn off the lights or turn the sound down," Wheatley added.

After the rides, Special Olympic games will be set up in Heritage Park that will go from noon until 2 p.m. and will be followed by prizes.
