ELKHART, Ind -- Elkhart County residents are preparing for storm damages and power outages as an overnight storm is expected to touch down.
Storms are expected to arrive early Thursday morning and one neighborhood that surrounds the Elkhart General hospital, is gearing up as they were victims in recent storms.
"Oh, we’ve talked to this before. We’ve got steps that go down, it’s open in back so, that’s the perfect place to go, is behind the steps," said one neighbor Linda Iavagnilio.
The neighborhood experienced severe weather damage and power outages in the month of June, that left them without power for over 24 hours.
With more storms arriving, residents in the are slightly frightened by the possible damage.
"Highly recommend that we test our weather radios. Either make sure that it’s plugged, make sure that the batteries that are used as a backup are good and in good working condition. Hopefully we don’t have anything crazy and people have a good night’s sleep," said executive director of Elkhart County emergency management.
The Elkhart County emergency management office has resources for those looking for services to clean storm damages.
