Elkhart County fair officials warn of concert ticket scams and resellers

GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Elkhart County 4-H Fair begins Friday, and fairgoers will be packing the grounds to see bestselling rapper, Ludacris.

People are getting their tickets online, but not all ticket sites are going to result in a good night for fans.

"We have been finding the resale sites will sell multiple of the same ticket, so a lot of people, when they purchase from there, their tickets will get scanned and then when they go to find their seats, and then there's somebody already in their seats and that's when we have to go into action and kind of track back who actually originally bought the ticket from us," said Shelly Steury, general manager of the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds.

ABC57 went on Ticketmaster to investigate.

The tickets for the grandstand are higher than $70, $20 more than what you would pay through the county fair's website.

"The best thing to do is go to the venue website, which is 4hfair.org. When people search, let's say a Ludacris ticket for the Elkhart County 4H Fair, we are not typically the first venue that pops up on a search, it's about 4 or 5 down, and that's where it gets a little bit tricky because most people, you're just inclined to click the first one you see, and that's not always the venue," said Steury.

Steury says if you see a jaw dropping deal on resale tickets, that's a red flag.

"If it's too good to be true, it probably is. We have people that have bought a ticket and something came up and they can't come to the concert so yeah, they might sell it at a little bit of a discounted price, and that's okay, but what we're finding is people are mostly overpaying for the tickets," said Steury.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Friday night.
