Elkhart County home destroyed by overnight fire

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- An overnight fire burned an Elkhart County home to the ground.

Crews were called to the scene around 11:30 Tuesday night on County Road 4.

Firefighters say when they arrived it was a fully involved fire. Several propane tanks were also inside the single story ranch and exploded.

The fire chief said it took over three hours to extinguish the fire.

No one was injured and the home was vacant. We’re told the owner does live just down the road and was on the scene.

Right now the fire is contained. Investigators are not sure what caused the blaze. They are expected to be on the scene later Wednesday to determine the cause.
