Elkhart County lifts burn ban

ELKHART CO., Ind. -- The Board of Commissioners of Elkhart County decided to lift the county's burn ban on Monday morning.

The burn ban was lifted at 10 a.m.

While severe draught is no longer creating a fire hazard in Elkhart County, officials encourage residents to take the following precautions:

  • Burn only in favorable weather conditions
  • Burn only during the daytime
  • When burning, always have water nearby to extinguish the fire
  • Never leave a fire unattended
  • Make sure the fire is fully extinguished

St. Joseph and LaGrange Counties lifted their burn bans last week.

71 counties in Indiana are still reporting active burn bans for their residents, including Starke and Kosciusko Counties in the Michiana area.

The Starke County Commissioners do not meet again until Aug. 6. There is a meeting scheduled for the Kosciusko County Commissioners to meet on Tuesday. We will keep you updated on any changes with current burn bans that are in place.
