Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office releases phone-scam warning
ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office sent out a media release on Monday to remind citizens to be wary of phone scams as the department sees an increase in aggressive tactics used by scammers.
The release reminds Elkhart County residents that the sheriff’s office does not ask for monetary gifts or prepaid credit cards over the phone, and that no one will be threatened with arrest or violence for matters such as warrants or jury duty.
Department officials also warn people to not give out any information, and to block any numbers that fit the description of a scam-call.
For Elkhart County residents who believe that they are a victim of a scam-call, the office recommends contacting local law enforcement agencies immediately.
