Elkhart fair collecting canned goods to feed Michiana

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. — Fried food is always a hit at the county fair, but this year one group is focusing on another type of food all in the name of giving back.

The Elkhart County 4H Fair is collecting canned goods and money to feed the hungry in Michiana. The program is called Fairs Care. It's set to aid needy families during these tough summer months.

"We know the economy still isn't where it needs to be," said executive director of church community services Rod Roberson. "As long as that's the case, people are going to be hungry. And kids will be hungry as well."

The goal is to raise at least $250,000 or collect 250,000 pounds of food.
