Elkhart families getting fresh food for Christmas dinner

ELKHART, Ind. -- Some Elkhart families in need this holiday are getting fresh food, just in time for the Christmas dinner.

Church Community Services opened its mobile food pantry on Tuesday. People were able to come in and get perishables including fruits, veggies and meat for free.

"Food insecurity in Elkhart County is a real serious problem, so this helps addressing it, and make holidays a little brighter and have some nutritional food on the table," said Mary Kneller, director of food services for Church Community Services.

Church Community Services has a permanent food pantry at its facility on Oakland Avenue. It is open Monday through Friday for those in need.
