ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Fire Department welcomed a new piece of equipment on Monday.
A new rig was introduced into the station with the help of some tradition.
The firefighters pushed the truck into the station themselves, which is ritual for new rigs.
“It brings together all the brotherhood and sisterhood of all the fire fighters and just any ceremony that recognizes their hard work and commitment to the community that can be carried on from generation to generation is really what it’s all about,” Fire Chief Chad Carey said.
The rig, Engine#6, is part of a plan from 2016.
It replaces and old rig that will be taken into the reserves.
Chief Carey said the new rig is more dependable and will require less maintenance.
