Elkhart house damaged by fire

ELKHART, Ind. -- Firefighters responded to a house fire at 506 S. 6th Street in Elkhart just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Neighbors said they saw black smoke coming from the home.
It took firefighters approximately 20 minutes to get the fire under control.
The fire chief says the home is vacant and they are still working to contact the owner.
A cat was rescued at the scene.
