ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – The Elkhart County Humane Society is offering specials the rest of this month to help cats and dogs find their forever homes.
The Humane Society is offering 50 percent off of adoptions fees for kittens, cats and dog over six months old.
The Executive Director, Rob LaRoy, says that since the pandemic they started limiting the amount of animals coming in, along with seeing a drop in adoptions.
“Nationwide we’re starting to see adoptions rates climb back up and we’re starting to see that ourselves too,” LaRoy said. “July has been much closer to our adoption rates for the last year. We’re right on target to meet what we would have met in 2019.”
But this month they say that adoptions rates are picking back up.
“Adoption rates have been have been down since the pandemic started,” LaRoy said. “We had a huge influx of people coming to get animals out of the shelter prior to the pandemic starting.”
The Humane Society will also be running a similar event during August called Clear the Shelter.
