Elkhart invites public to Firetruck Push-In Ceremony Thursday

Elkhart Fire Department

ELKHART, Ind. -- The City of Elkhart announced Elkhart Fire Station 4 will hold a firetruck push-in ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for the Elkhart Fire Department's new truck.

EFD invites the public to celebrate this milestone, which they say is an investment in public safety which only comes around every 15-20 years.

Fire officials say this traditional event invites the community to help firefighters “push” the new engine into the station, honoring a long-standing fire service ritual that dates back to the days of horse-drawn fire equipment. Back then, when firefighters returned from a call, they had to push their equipment back into the bay.

“This is more than just a celebration of a new truck—it’s a celebration of the community and our continued investment in keeping Elkhart safe. These trucks are only purchased every 15 -20 years. My administration is committed to ensuring that our public safety personnel are well equipped in order to provide unparalleled service to the City of Elkhart," said Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson.

The event will include family-friendly games, food, and a special appearance by Sadie, the beloved fire station dog.

Ethos will also be there with hands on engagement for children.

Fire Station 4 is located at 1037 Oak St.
