Elkhart man arrested, charged with felonies after running woman over with car

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department reports officers arrived at a home in the 100 block of E. Lusher Avenue for a hit-and-run call around 10:19 p.m. on Aug. 8.
The victim, identified as a 42-year-old woman, indicated the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Christian Hernandez Gonzalez, had ran her over multiple times with his vehicle before leaving the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, police located the suspect vehicle, a Ford Explorer, in the 400 block of E. Simonton Street.
EPD then located and arrested Gonzalez before taking him to the Elkhart County Jail.
The investigation revealed the two knew each other.
The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office subsequently filed formal criminal charges against Gonzalez.
Gonzalez is charged with Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, Aggravated Battery, a Level 3 Felony, Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony, Causing Serious Bodily Injury when Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, a Level 5 Felony, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Moderate or Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 6 Felony.
