Four arrested in connection with shoplifting at University Park Mall, over $6k of clothing recovered

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Four men are facing theft charges for allegedly shoplifting at stores in University Park Mall on June 14.

The suspects, 18-year-old Kenny Lee, 19-year-old Kewuan Johnson, 25-year-old Will Hollway, and 19-year-old Rayshawn Holloway are each charged with two counts of Aiding or Causing Theft of property between $750 & $50k, as Level 6 Felonies, and Aiding or Causing Theft, a Misdemeanor.

Lee's initial hearing is July 27, Johnson's is July 6, Will's is July 28, and Rayshawn's is July 9.

St. Joseph County court documents reveal officers with the Mishawaka Police Department responded to the area of TJ Maxx at 5816 Grape Road for a report of shoplifting.

Dispatch informed police the suspects were seen leaving the store before entering a Kia Forte. Police looked up the Indiana license plate number and learned the vehicle was registered to Rayshawn.

According to the Indiana BMV, Rayshawn's driver's license was suspended.

Authorities were able to track the suspect vehicle to the back entrance parking lot of the UP Mall, utilizing FLOCK license plate readers.

Police arrived, located the vehicle, and waited to see if anyone would approach it, as investigators suspected it would be used as a getaway vehicle.

Police then observed four men, later identified as Lee, Johnson, Will, and Rayshawn, running from the mall exit to the car. Authorities say the men were glancing back at the exit with their hoods up.

Police say it appeared as if they were running from someone while trying to conceal their identities. After the men got into the suspect vehicle and pulled away, authorities followed and made a felony traffic stop.

Police noted a large amount of clothes in the car, all with tags still attached and on hangers.

Authorities recovered $1,769.98 of merchandise from TJ Maxx and $4,888 of merchandise from Lululemon. A pair of shorts from American Eagle was also found, which appeared to have been stolen.

The stolen items were found in the passenger compartment and the trunk, according to the report. The items were returned and the affected stores will release security footage of the thefts to investigators.
